Customers can also utilise a number of bespoke add-ons, including Tesco Breakdown Cover (offered in partnership with the RAC) and Tesco Legal Guard Cover (offered in partnership with Fortis Insurance), which provides legal cost cover of up to £100,000 for customers involved in an accident which was not their fault.

The Power of Tesco

Tesco car insurance, offered in conjunction with Tesco Bank and Tesco Underwriting Ltd, is designed to be simple, customer-friendly and cost-effective, with a plethora of options tailored to specific customer needs. Broadly speaking, Tesco divides its motor insurance packages into two distinct streams; regular/premier insurance and a cheaper solution, which does not include many of the usual frills.

Each policy offers protection for a range of situations and emergencies. Indeed Tesco’s comprehensive car insurance includes a choice of voluntary excess as well as cover for personal accidents, fire and theft damage, personal possessions and technologies such as DVD players, stereos and sat navs.

The price of Tesco car insurance

Tesco’s approach to motor insurance is based on the principle that customers should pay no more than what their policy really costs; this is reflected in a range of offers and price reductions.

Customers who take out Tesco car insurance can benefit from an online discount of up to 10%, and new customers receive a further 6% reduction. Tesco car insurance packages even offer an exclusive discount for Clubcard customers, which can reach 15%.

To complement these key price reduction policies, Tesco regularly offers short-term discounts and incentives to drive new business. For example, customers who purchased either the Recovery Plus or Euro Plus Breakdown Assistance packages early last year received a discount of up to 50%.

In addition to financial savings, Tesco car insurance customers will also receive a small courtesy car, to ensure they stay on the road even when their car requires repair. Other benefits include discounts on servicing and repairs (via Nationwide Autocentres), cover for up to 90 days when driving in Europe, and a replacement in the event of damage to the customer’s child’s car seat.

Finally, those customers who buy car insurance through Tesco Compare can receive up to 12 months’ free access to a lost key recovery service, which is usually worth around £10.

These benefits have clearly won widespread approval among British motorists. In 2010, Tesco Car Insurance was voted the UK’s most trusted car insurance provider by This Is Money, and customer satisfaction rates are high
