The Tamil movie Ayan released in 2009 is an action thriller whose director and writer is K.V.Anand. The film stars the male actors in the lead roles, namely Surya, Prabhu and Karunas, while the Tamil actress Tamanna plays the leading lady in the movie.

The story of the film centers on Deva (Surya), the youngster. His mother played by Renuka, nurses the ambition of making him a government official. Deva, however, is employed with a smuggler’s group that is led by Arumuga Dass (Prabhu). The latter had been caring for him since Deva’s childhood days. There is the birth of the conflict when the archrival of Deva, Kamalesh (Akashdeep Saigal) opposes as well as attempts to do away with Arumuga Dass and take leadership of the smuggling business. The story’s climax revolves around this particular conflict.

Tamanna’s presence in the movie as Yamuna in scintillating costumes, adds to the appeal. Though it cannot be said that she has any primary role to play except in a few songs, which includes one in the foreign land, she is pretty convincing. Tamanna, the actress, born in December 21, 1989 is a model and an actress, having acted in a Hindi film named Chand Sa Roshan Chehra and several Tamil films. Surya along with Tamanna together make for a good pair in Ayan and there are no clichés in their love story. The second meeting scene between them shows a sparkling chemistry brought forward by brilliant script writing. The role of the mother in the movie, of the actress Renuka is beautifully developed and executed.

Surya, with his impeccable dancing and acting skills as well as a well-toned body aptly fits in the role of an action hero. However, Prabhu’s punching dialogues and powerful acting helps him steal the limelight. The film has racy music with a melodious and apt background score created by Harris Jayaraj. Ayan is a pure entertainer appealing to every section of the audience and is certainly one of the popular Tamil movies of recent times.
