Tamil Actress Asin Thottumkal

Asin Thottumkal is a Tamil film actress known mostly by her first name. Asin’s name means pure and blemish-free. Her fan base is enamored with her beautiful innocence and general skill of acting in diverse roles. Asin’s first big success was with Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammayi, the 2003 film in which she won the Filmfare Award for the Best Telugu Actress. She has since received a South Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in Ghajini, Asin’s second Tamil film.

            Ghajini is a psychological thriller Tamil film in which Asin plays the “lovable chatterbox” Kalpana. In the film, a rich business entrepreneur falls in love with a middle-class actress. The film takes a dark turn to earn its psychological thriller title as the main character becomes afflicted with short term memory loss and seeks revenge for a murder. The film was her breakthrough into the Tamil film industry, as she proved her excellence in acting. She reprised her role in the second Ghajini, the Hindi remake of the Tamil original.

            Asin has played the leading lady and heroine in numerous Tamil films such as Majaa, Sivakasi, Varalaru, and of course Ghajini.  She has since been praised for her dual role in K. S. Ravikumar’s film Dasavathaaram, which she plays opposite Kamal Hassan who portrayed ten separate roles. Dasavathaaram is Asin’s biggest success to date. In this film, critics praise, Asin showed her true talent as a lead actress. Asin has since opted to make herself a more prominent member of Bollywood in order to garner even more fame to her name. Rumors have spread that Asin’s next big film is going to be a Tamil film starring Joseph Vijay. An already fantastic actress in her own right, Asin is gathering fans as she goes, proving her strength in show business. Asin is still active to this day, and is believed to become an even bigger star, as she is in her prime when it comes to starring in blockbuster films.
