Disclaimers are tiring to read. Often they can confuse and annoy someone who is just looking for some quick car insurance. They use complex sentences and phrases that most people are frustrated in trying to understand. It’s almost as if they’re trying to make sure you DON’T know what you’re getting into! This article can help. It offers numerous confusing phrases that the insurance company often throws around. If you have ever been confused or even agitated at the insurance company’s refusal to speak in plain English, you’re definitely going to want to read this.

The disclaimer says:

The quotes generated by this program are merely estimates based upon the information you have provided. They are not a contract, binder or agreement to extended insurance coverage.

It really means:

The rates that we give you are based only on what you’ve told us so far. The rates can change if you do decide to purchase a policy from us. This is a quote, and not an actual insurance policy.

The disclaimer says:

The coverage descriptions provided to you are general descriptions of available coverages that you may encounter, and are not a statement of contract.

It really means:

We are not yet extending actual insurance coverage to you.

The disclaimer says:

To obtain coverage you are required to submit to us an application. All applications will be subject to underwriting approval.

It really means:

We will not provide insurance until we approve an application that you submit to us.

The disclaimer says:

Coverages and availability may vary by state or province. Additional minimum coverage limits may be available in your state.

It really means:

Different states have different coverages and minimum requirements.

The disclaimer says:

Quotes provided are subject to the accuracy of the information you provided and are contingent upon you providing a copy of your most recent insurance declaration page or identification card so that we may verify accident history.

It really means:

The rate we give you is not final until we prove your information is accurate. Also until you provide proof of prior insurance.

The disclaimer says:

Your quote depends on the accuracy of the details you provide on this form. Please be aware that not all limits and coverage selections are appropriate for everyone.

It really means:

If you do not report everything completely and honestly, your rate will not be accurate. Some people need different limits than others.

The disclaimer says:

Underwriting eligibility and review has not yet occurred.

It really means:

We have not yet verified your information or assessed your risk potential.

The disclaimer says:

We may be able to provide you with a more refined quote, given that you provide additional information.

It really means:

We might be able to give you a more accurate quote if you give us more specific information or more information.

The disclaimer says:

In order to provide to you accurate online information we must use a variety of resources. Sometimes our company requires more specifics that cannot be easily answered with a yes or no. In these instances, please call us and speak with a customer service representative. This is for your benefit so that you receive information that accurate reflects your coverage needs.

It really means:

We could not verify the information you gave us. Please call us and we can give you a quote.

Remember to question your agent frequently, or call up the office whenever you are confused by a statement.
