The Film

Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is a brand new Hindi film (release date April 2010) about a woman who falls from Venus to find true love on Earth. Right when you hear the plot basis you might tilt your head and ask “Why?” but the film’s story is actually played out quite well by the young performers. Many say that the plot leaves something to be desired, but that is up to debate.

First, the story. It all starts with Rajesh and his best friend Kaushal. Rajesh is a 24 year-old guy who can’t seem to find love. He’s considered too simple and boring, while his best friend is considered too much of a pervert. They both desire a woman’s attention but it seems entirely unobtainable for them. Rajesh, frustrated prays for a woman to save him from his loneliness- and his prayer is answered when a beautiful woman from Venus falls from the sky. The girl’s mission is to find her soul mate.

The Actors

Rajesh and Kaushal, played by Ritesh Deshmukh and Vishal Malhotra respectively, perform wonderfully in the offbeat film. Even Jacqueline Fernandez, who plays the woman from Venus, stuns the audience with her loveliness and total confidence in her role. It is for this reason that the film is a must-see for true Hindi film enthusiasts. The actors in Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai are fantastic and play their roles flawlessly.

Unfortunately, the actors greatly surpass their scripts. It appears the writer was a little vague and left much to be desired in the plot line. While the idea of an alien falling in love with a human is interesting and fairly knew to the Bollywood scene, the story is pretty bland otherwise. The dialogue is cheesy, and clichés are apparent everywhere you look. The romantic comedy is also very confusing when it tries to play up to both roles with very little tweaking on the director’s part. When it comes to comedy, each actor has perfect timing and wit- but unfortunately the script doesn’t leave them with many humorous punch lines.. So while the actors themselves are on pitch, the humor of the writer needs a touch up.

While Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai does provide an interesting concept and a fairly humorous storyline, it truly does seem like it needs a lot of work. Hindi film enthusiasts will certainly want to watch and marvel at the fantastic acting and interesting story, but otherwise the film is a little bit clichéd and boring to watch. Perhaps the film will end up a cult classic, or be rejuvenated through a remake using a better script and a better director calling the shots.
